PMS, PCOS, Endometriosis, Fibroids, and Infertility are some of the common female health issues today. Due to our food choices, our irregular and stressful life-styles, as well as our exposure of different hormones and endocrine disruptors, the female body is more prone to developing what the Traditional Chinese Medical diagnosis would call Cold, Stagnant, Damp, Phlegm accumulation in the Uterus and the Dai or the “Belt” channel. When circulation or blood flow is decreased in these regions, Cold accumulates. With prolonged Cold accumulation there may also be Blood stagnation which can cause painful, clotty menstruation or even irregular periods. Over a long period of time, Dampness and Phlegm may accumulate due to the poor circulation of fluids, causing cysts and fibroids to form, which may also be accompanied with hormonal imbalance.

Moxibustion, a form of TCM therapy is derived from drying and processing herbs such as mugwort, which have warming and acrid properties. Moxa is applied on acupuncture points on the abdomen as well has on the arms and legs, where appropriate. It does not burn the skin and it produces a warming sensation that is relaxing. There is a strong scent even with the “smoke-less” Moxa, which most patients find calming. Moxa is the treatment of choice for warming and moving the stagnant Qi, Blood, and Fluids in the Dai channel. Please talk to your TCM practitioner to see if Moxibustion therapy will be appropriate for you.
